Photo Challenge Day 8

Day 08 – A picture of the cast of your favorite show

I have already mentioned that I am not really a tv watcher. I watch American Idol, sometimes, because Maggie wants to watch it. I watch So You Think You Can Dance when I happen to remember that it is on. I do not have a DVR, so if I miss it, I miss it. But a favorite show? FRIENDS, for sure. I have several seasons on DVD, and what I don't have, another friend of mine does. I know almost every episode by heart, and often laugh to myself when something in real life plays out like something on the show.

Photo Challenge Day 7

{Sorry, I took a break for a week of teaching VBS and our final week of summer swim league}

Day 07 - A picture of something you cherish

This child's spirit. It is quite dear to me. She IS NOT fearless, though at times it may seem so. She simply believes in herself. Until last week, she had never even jumped off a diving board (a boat house into the lake, yes...a diving board into a pool, no). This week? She's perfecting her back dive. She makes it look easy. I wasn't there, but I am certain that she was quite a bit fearful at first. Fear does not paralyze her as it does me. It pushes her to respond. Man, I cherish that!

Photo Challenge Day 6

Day 06 - A picture of a person you consider a close friend
This is my friend Jennifer. We have only been close a few years, but at this point, she probably knows more about me than anyone...other than John. She makes me laugh until my sides hurt, and she makes me think until my brain hurts. She helped me regain my confidence when I lost it, and she constantly pushes me forward. Mostly she has held my hand and encouraged me--sometimes with a gentle reminder, sometimes with hard words, always with grace and steadfast love. Jennifer has reminded me why exactly I believe in investing in is in the moments when we truly stand in the gap for each other that we experience heart change and life change. Her friendship has been a very healing balm for my weary soul.

Photo Challenge Day 5

Day 05 A Photo that makes you laugh

Wow, I take a lot of pictures, and in every set, there is at least one that makes me laugh! So for today, I pick this one...Bentley, doing his best Harry Potter impression. What makes this picture even more funny is that it is not posed. I came down the stairs (this was when Bent was five) and saw Bentley sitting on the fireplace reading. I quickly grabbed the camera and caught the moment!

Photo Challenge Day 4

Day 04 - A picture of a favorite memory

My birthday gets swallowed whole by the end of the school year, Ellie's birthday, and my anniversary. It is always around Memorial Day weekend, and no matter how hard people try, they are always too busy to celebrate. So this is, by far, one of my favorite memories. Some of my VERY FAVORITE, DEAREST, CLOSEST friends out to eat at my favorite restaurant last year for my birthday. It has only happened twice since I have been married, and only once since I have had Ellie...gathering to celebrate with my friends on my day. My favorite recent memory by far.

Monday, June 13

We finally took down the leland cypress that was up against the house and blocking sunshine from the grass beside the sidewalk. Tomorrow? I think I will plug some sod and see if we can finally get some grass to grow next to the sidewalk.

Day Three Photo Challenge

Day 03 – A picture (or two or three) and a letter

Dear Summer Swim Team,

I am so thankful we discovered you last year! I am so grateful for the confidence that you have given my son. For four weeks now, swim team is all he has talked about. He has learned to swim all four strokes in a competent manner and is even quite competitive. For someone who tends to be lazy and tends to be apprehensive, you have given him an outlet that he truly loves and enjoys.
It is so fun to watch him dive in off the blocks and swim the lane as if he is the only one out there. I love his smile as he pulls himself out of the water when he's done. I love that he is always happy with his race.

Thank you for showing me a side of Bentley that I have not seen before now. I imagine he will be swimming on the team for the rest of his childhood years!

Day Two Photo Challenge

Day Two: A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest
For sure it is tough to decide who you have been the closest with the longest. I have a handful of friends that I have had forever, but mostly different seasons of life in different places with different people. But John has been my very best friend for the last thirteen years, and I can only imagine that we will be best friends forever. He knows absolutely everything about me and loves me just as I am. I am very, very blessed.

Day One Photo Challenge

Day One: A photo of yourself and ten facts

{Me and my fledglings at Zoo Atlanta}

1. If you click over to my cousin's page (where I got this from anyway), you will see that we have a lot in common. It's funny how God works that way. Our parents are twins. I've been married 12 years! I taught school and now teach my own kiddos! I worry more than I let on! I am addicted to Coke Zero! I am horrible at keeping in touch with people!

2. I am quiet. I sit back and observe and glean and learn. I process my words before they come out, and sometimes, if it takes me a while to process, people take it the wrong way. I have to apologize a lot.

3. I sew. I love to sit at my sewing machine or serger and create something.

4. I cut the grass. There is something about cutting the grass with the push mower and seeing the difference in what has been done and what is left. For me, it is instant gratification and accomplishment from hard work. I like that.

5. I hate to iron. John does the ironing in our house, unless I am sewing.

6. John and I had our first date in a Italian restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand. For our twelfth anniversary, we had a date in a Thai restaurant in Marietta. We would still sell everything we owned and move to Bangkok if God said go.

7. I don't watch television. Our television is rarely turned on. There are no "have to" watch television shows for any of us. I feel like I am wasting time if I am sitting in front of the tv, and John has narcolepsy.

8. I do not like coffee. I can hang out in coffee houses and drink steamed milk or chai, but I definitely do not like to drink coffee.

9. I can count on one hand the number of movies I have seen in the theater during the last five years...most of them with the kiddos.

10. I am a "jack-of-all-trades, master of none" type of person. There is very little I can't or won't attempt, but I am not excellent at anything in particular!

Photo Challenge...

My cousin is doing this photo challenge, and seeing as how I now have THREE posts sitting in my pile that I just can't quite finish up, I decided to jump on board and play along. Like Jennifer, it may not be the next thirty days in a row, but we'll see how I do. Maybe I just need a little structure!

Some of my proudest moments.

...are when she dances. For one who stumbles up and down the stairs daily, with legs covered in bruises, something magical happens on the stage. She stands tall, leaps gracefully, and smiles as if her life depended on it. I love her so.

My other proudest moments, though, are in moments when she experiences disappointment. Just this morning, she saw the heat sheet for her swim meet tonight. She is only in the first heat one time out of five races, and her response was, "Oh, that stinks!" and then, "Oh well, at least it's fun!" She went to practice and swam her heart out. It's how she does everything--with her whole heart. I absolutely love her and her ability to shake off the things that bother her. She will maneuver life well; I am sure of it.
