Warrior Way

We woke up this morning at dark thirty and headed into Kennesaw for the Warrior Way...the 5K race that John's XC team puts on. In years past, Maggie and Bent have run the 1K Fun Run, but this year, Maggie ran the 5K. She had practiced with John's middle school club team throughout the fall, so we were pretty confident that she would be able to do it. She did. John ran with her most of the way, and she finished with one of her middle school friends. A full 5K without walking. We are so proud of her.

Then when they gave out awards, she actually won a medal. She was second in her age group--10 and under. I am not sure if I have ever seen a more excited 9 year old. I think this may seal the deal as far as XC is concerned. I am imagining many Saturday mornings at races in the years to come.

It was also neat to see the older teenagers interact with her. There were a lot of encouraging words, high fives, and hugs. They were so excited for her. We are so fortunate for our kiddos to be surrounded by such great teenagers and good influences. This is her friend Regan who also took home a medal for second place in her age group (just one age group ahead of Mags).
Bentley ran the 1K with his buddy Cole. They did an awesome job as well. It was Bent's first year to run without John. They are growing up way too fast! Bent walked away ready to run a 5K. We'll just have to see about that one!
